Registering
(Q) How do I register?

In order to buy or sell items on HippoBay you must become a registered member. To register, go to the registration page, you're required to provide your contact details and setup a user account. Your contact details are supplied to your buyers and sellers after an auction ends, so make sure they are correct. Your 'User ID' must be unique and will be your identification on HippoBay. You will need your 'User ID' to sign in and access member areas.


Once registered, you will be sent a confirmation email to activate your user account.


It only takes a few minutes to register, it's fast and easy.


If you have not received an activation email, please check your spam filter and junk email settings to make sure emails from HippoBay (i.e. email address ends in @hippobay.com) are not blocked.

(Q) I'm under 18 and can't signup?
(A) In accordance with standard law under 18's cannot participate in auctions as they legal binding contracts
Account Activation

An account activation email with the subject: (Hippobay Auctions Login Information) will be sent to your registered email address from HippoBay email address ending in @hippobay.com

If you have not received an activation email, please check your spam filter and junk email settings to make sure emails from HippoBay (i.e. email address ends in @hippobay.com) are not blocked.

Incorrect registered email address
If your registered email address is incorrect or invalid, you can update it and then have the activation email sent to you again.

Problems Signing In

Here are some possible reasons why you may be unable to sign in to HippoBay.


Incorrect User ID or password
Please make sure you enter your correct 'User ID' and password. Your password is case sensitive. If you cannot remember your password, you can create a new password. Your current password will not be recovered due to security reasons.

User Verification
Why should I be verified?
Our verification process ensures the person has gone through the necessary actions to become a verified HIPPOBAY Auction member. This process ensures the user's authenticity and eliminates fraudulent bidders. Sellers can enable their auctions to accept bids from verified members only if they so choose. We have added this feature to help ensure a safe service to our buyers and sellers and prevent any and all types of fraud.

- Buyers do not have to be verified on HIPPOBAY Auction and Sellers are now required to be ID Verified in order to post auctions. Sellers have an option of disallowing Not Verified buyers from bidding on their auctions.

- When you're successfully verified, you will receive an ID Verify icon in your feedback profile.

- On HIPPOBAY Auction, people are putting up cash and property against the faith and integrity of other users so it is imperitive that we do what we can to insure the integrity of our users. We believe that the high caliber and accountability of our sellers is worth the trouble of verification. And our sellers feel the same about verified buyers.

HIPPOBAY Auction is unable to guarantee that a user is who they may claim to be. If you are uncertain as to another users identity, we suggest that you contact them. You may also review any members feedback profile to see what others have said about dealing with them.
Selling
(Q) How can I list an item?
(A) You must first be a registered member. Once you have registered simply login to your account and click on the "Sell" link. The first thing to do is select a general category for your item, note that you can choose a more specific category further into the listing process. You can then enter in your chosen settings and item description
(Q) How can I keep track of items I'm selling?
(A) You can keep an eye on everything you are selling by visiting your members area and selecting
the "selling" page.
(Q) Can I use HTML when listing an item?
(A) Yes you can, however we recomend you use basic tags as complex HTML descriptions may not display correctly.
How to Bid
(Q) How can I place a bid?
(A) To place a bid on an item you must first login to your account. Once logged in a bidding box will be displayed at bottom of all auction pages. You can use this box to place you chosen bid
(Q) How can I keep track of items I'm bidding on?
(A) You can keep an eye on everything you are bidding on by visiting your members area and selecting the "bidding" page.
(Q) How do I know if I am outbid on an item?
(A) Our auction system will automatically notify you via email if you are outbid.

Over time, members of the HippoBay community develop a Feedback Profile, or reputation, based on the comments and ratings left by other members. The Feedback Score is one of the most important pieces of a Feedback Profile. It’s the number in parentheses next to a member’s user ID and it’s also located at the top of the member’s Feedback Profile.
